As a designer, I’m loving these home weddings! Focal points are taking center stage, creating backdrops and adding beauty to those special places where so many memories have already been made. The intimate feel is incredibly sweet and in the end, couples are still getting married and able to spend their lives as they intended – together!
Many weddings in 2020 have been smaller more intimate occasions than what brides and grooms had initially planned. As the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our country and the world around us, brides, planners and families have had to adjust their plans to celebrate one of life’s most special events. Brides, many who had dreamed of this day since playing dress up as a child, had to scale back their wedding vision and many chose to delay their larger celebration to a more appropriate time.
Jessica and her sweet mom, Carol, began planning Jessica’s wedding in 2019. Jessica, a busy medical student, had just one summer weekend in which she and her fiancé, also a med student, could break away from the demands of their studies and schedules to pledge their love and devotion to one another. Carol worked with Shindig and Magnolia Bride to create a whimsical wedding weekend in beautiful downtown Ocean Springs. As the corona virus began in March, we all thought that by June, the wedding would proceed as planned. However, as time passed, we all realized that plans had to change.
Carol and Jessica liked the idea of an intimate wedding at home, so we worked together to make this event so very special. Jessica and Hayes were married on that one available June Saturday on the steps of her childhood home surrounded by her family and just a few special friends. Under a garland of silver dollar eucalyptus with quicksand roses, Jessica and Hayes, promised to live a long life together. Flanked on either side by an urns of belles of Ireland, even more quicksand roses and more summer flowers, while their day was different than first imagined but still beautiful and special.
Inside, we designed tables of hydrangeas, stock and peonies as well as a large bar arrangement to create height and interest. A few guests celebrated the day, and then Jessica and Hayes returned to their studies and future medical careers.
Thank you Jessica and Hayes for trusting Shindig to bring your wedding to life with flowers! We loved working with you and wish you both a lifetime of happiness!
