I grew up in a small north Mississippi town. Silver, china and crystal were handed down among generations, given at holidays, birthdays and graduations, and wedding registries were filled with all the beautiful things any bride could want. In Holly Springs, we absolutely used it - because they were family treasures and treasures should be enjoyed. You rarely went to a party where you weren’t drinking out of a mint julep and every piece of food was served on a family antique. Beautiful items collected over lifetimes - I love them, and I love when a bride wants to use her favorite treasures at her wedding no matter what the item or trend may be.
I’ve known Katie Hudson for years, and I was flattered when she asked me if I would help with florals for her wedding. Katie had planned a wedding in Costa Rica, then COVID became a reality and plans changed not once but twice. She then booked a weekend with family in New Orleans, but as cases climbed she decided to forego that route as well. Working with Donna at Revel and Company, she ended up finding the stunning Venue at Southern Oaks in Harrison County. Beautiful oaks grace the property which is highlighted by a rustic and altogether beautiful barn turned venue with the most precious guest house you’ve ever seen - perfect for a bride to dress for the day.
Katie wanted her wedding to have a vintage feel in a rustic setting and wanted to use what she loved and treasured - a collection of antique silver pitchers that belonged to her grandmother. I was game!! She also wanted silver vases, roses and hydrangeas, and that’s never hard because they are always stunning. We chose a señorita rose - the most gorgeous tones of pale pink giving it the perfect vintage color to compliment white hydrangeas and added in pink and white stock, blush lisianthis and various eucalyptus to pull together a vintage feel.
Under a stunning oak, was a beautiful cross where Katie and David said their vows alongside their children, family and friends. Inside, the vintage feel carried through to the table settings, tall arrangements, and her grandmother’s silver pitchers, beautifully restored, and filled with Katie’s favorites- roses and hydrangeas.
Use what you love - no matter if it’s the current trend or not. That’s what Katie did, and we should all find a joy in the beautiful sentimental things we treasure.
