I think we can all agree that 2020 was quite a challenge, but what I found as the year drew to a close was most people wanted to celebrate joy. Call it holiday cheer or Christmas magic - I call it joy. Pure and simple, Christmas brings joy to so many, and even though your celebrations may have been very different this year, everyone can agree that Christmas decorations make it all more joyful.
Even in my own home, I chose to decorate early to create a little joy for my family and be able to enjoy it all a little longer. So many of my decorations bring back special, joyful memories of loved ones and friends. From ornaments made by my children to those given to me as wedding gifts, each one brings a smile to my face.
Each year, I decorate a handful of homes. From interiors to exteriors, each home is different from the other. I have clients who have their own fabulous decorations but want help putting it all together. And, I have others who are starting from scratch or just need me to fill in here and there. In my opinion, Christmas decor is all about layers and using what you like. Think about a Christmas tree. You start with the actual tree, layer in lights, then ornaments, maybe ribbon or glitzy picks. The same goes for door garland. Start with the green garland base, then add whatever it is you like - lights, ornaments, ribbon, glitz. Some want lots of sparkle and shine and many layers. Others, prefer simplicity.
Whatever you prefer, the only thing that matters is that it brings you joy. I hope you all have taken a little time this holiday, to enjoy your decorations. Let them bring you that much-needed joy to end this crazy year.
